BANNERS
The banner is a type of flag and is used by Orthodox Christian churches and monasteries in certain events, litanies or in the procession of the Epitaph. It is also used by clubs, trade unions and guilds to celebrate their protector saints. banner of the post-Byzantine period (15th-18th century) are usually adorned with the depiction of the patron saint of the church or the monastery, union or guild. Their decoration is occasionally complemented by religious scenes related to the church or the institution. The oldest banners were often gold-embroidered, while the newer ones are usually painted works on fabric or canvas.
